October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month

In 2004, the President of the United States and Congress declared October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Each year since, the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Alliance, has released toolkits and resources to help organizations and individuals stay cyber-aware.

This year’s theme, “Stay Safe Online,” is a reminder that good cyber habits don’t need to be complicated or intimidating. Cybersecurity is achievable for everyone; and BankOnIT is here to support your organization in building confidence and awareness around the steps you can take to protect yourself and the bank.

Below is a summary of four simple, powerful actions that everyone can take to strengthen cybersecurity:

    • Avoid Phishing Scams. Phishing remains one of the most common and dangerous threats, tricking users into clicking on malicious links, opening dangerous attachments, or sharing sensitive information.
    • Use Strong Passwords. Strong, unique passwords—both inside and outside of work—are one of the easiest ways to block criminals from accessing your accounts.
    • Utilize MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication). MFA is becoming more common across many applications. Whenever possible, enable it for an added layer of protection especially on your personal accounts.
    • Stay Up to Date. BankOnIT ensures the bank’s systems are securely maintained, but your personal devices need attention too. Regularly install updates to keep your software and apps protected.

The takeaway: Cyber threats evolve quickly. This October, make cybersecurity a priority. Take these simple steps to protect yourself, your organization, and those who depend on your services.
